Purity Ring’s Shrines is a masterpiece of electronic music. The duo who are from Montreal released this record to rave reviews and rightly so. Megan James’ sweet vocals mixed with her dark and often quite disturbing lyrics are a fine match. Add to that some interesting and well crafted production and Shrines is born.

When you listen to this record, it feels like it is constantly changing and evolving. The production and sounds used are so unusual and well placed that the record reaches a flawless finish. The final song on the record ‘Shuck’ sees Megan James sing against a sparse backing sound and provides a perfect ending to the record.

Shrines is an incredible debut record and Purity Ring are a band who I hope will be around for a long time to come.

Best tracks: Lofticries, Belispeak, Shuck, Crawlersout
