Albums of 2012 #8: Beach House- Bloom

In 2010, Beach House released a record called ‘Teen Dream’ and it was AMAZING and I listened to it around 1000 times. This is the follow up to that record and so obviously I had very very very high hopes. Bloom is not as good as Teen Dream, it’s also very different. It’s still got that essencial Beach House sound, but where Teen Dream was summery, youthful and fun, Bloom is mature, more serious and more suited to the winter months.

It’s still full of absolutely gorgeous songs, full of even more woozy guitar and synths than ever before. From the opening ‘Myth’ you are effortless transported into the soundscape of Beach House. My personal highlight of the record is ‘New Year’ but the entire thing makes me swoon and want more more more. I will constantly be waiting for the next Beach House record.

Best tracks: Myth, Wild, New Year, hidden track at the end of Irene
