New Treat #101: Eliza Shaddad

You may recognise Eliza Shaddad‘s voice from the band Clean Bandit, I have posted a few of their things recently and love the song ‘Birch‘. Eliza Shaddad provides the dreamy soulful vocals in the band and also makes her own, rather delightful music. Her influences come from diverse areas of music, from the UK Folk Festival scene, to London’s Underground Hip-Hop scene and she also studied Jazz at Guildhall.

Her music rather like her influences, seems to come from many different places. It’s got the folky dreamyness of acts like Daughter and Lucy Rose and also Lianne La Havas-like soul and a snippet of the sounds of London’s blues-jazz underground scene. It’s ultimately very lovely. Her debut EP was released at the end of March and it’s a divine selection of songs backed with light floaty guitar sounds and deep thick harmonies. The production of it is exquisite, as is her voice, shown off best on the hidden track at the end of ‘Bracket’.

Eliza plays a lot around London, including two residencies, check out all her live dates here.
