New Treat #71: Rhob Cunningham

Tomorrow I have some exciting news coming about an event I have programmed at the Roundhouse. Rhob is one of the acts that will be performing, but I just couldn’t wait until tomorrow to tell you about him so I decided to write this today.

Rhob Cunningham is a singer songwriter from Dublin, Ireland. He used to be part of a band called ‘Our Little Secrets’ who made a really great album together which you can find on Spotify, or here on Bandcamp. He is now a solo artist, and 2011 saw him support the likes of James Vincent McMorrow and Alela Diane. What makes Rhob Cunningham so good, is the songwriting. He has that talent of writing engaging, beautiful songs and he needs nothing but a guitar and voice. His voice is rich and he has a wide range which he shows off well in the song ‘Someone Will’ below.

The two videos I have posted below are my favourite two songs I have come across from him, ‘Someone Will’ and ‘Quiet Song’. Rhob Cunningham could very well be the next great singer songwriter to come from Ireland, following in the footsteps of James Vincent McMorrow, Fionn Regan and Villagers, both who have seen a lot of well deserved success in the last few years.
