New Treat #53: ∆ (Alt-J)

Alt-J or ∆(the sign that comes up if you actually press Alt + J on your keyboard) is quite a mystery. They/he is from Leeds and make sounds quite unlike anything I’ve ever heard. A Devendra Banheart-esque voice over a mix of hip-hop, electronica, trip-hop, folk, alt. indie, lush harmonies and ultimately wonderful sounds.. He has a mass amount of tour dates planned over the next few weeks, none include London unfortunately, but if your around the North of the country you might be able to catch him. He also plays Constellations festival in Leeds in November. There are 4 tracks available on Soundcloud, all available to download for free. I like Breezeblocks the best, which is available below.

Hi ,ALT-J is not a person… it is a four piece band- made up of Jo, main vocalist, Gus ,key board, Thom percussion and Gwil on base- they met at Leeds University (three studied fine Art)- they have now moved to Cambridge as more central for their extensive upcomng tour dates-they were voted favourite track on Steve Lamacq’s rebel playlist last week on BBC radio 6 and have done live sessions (recorded at the beebs Maida Vale Studio) for Radio 6 and Radio 1 (Huw Stevens) and also on Xfm radio last week
