New Treat #38: The Staves

I first saw The Staves when I went to see Lissie support Joshua Radin at the Brudenell Social Club long ago. They were the first support and I heard someone in front of my describe them as ‘Laura Marling but not as boring’, which I definitely don’t agree with! The Staves make beautiful pop music, with a 60’s feel and a wonderful country backbone. They are a three girl harmony group but of a very different vain to The Pins or Stealing Sheep. ‘Mexico’ is a gorgeous dreamy country song, The Fire is an accapella number showing the strength of these girls harmonies. You can buy their EP ‘Facing West’ for only £5 from here. Their voices also feature quite prominently on the new record from Communion, ‘The Flowerpot Sessions’. Here are some of their upcoming dates:

April 30th/1st May: Camden Crawl

May 13th: The Great Escape

July 17th: Larmer Tree Festival

July 24th: Secret Garden Party

July 29th: Cambridge Folk Festival

September 2nd: End of the Road Festival

September 3rd: Mosley Folk Festival

They will also be supporting Willy Mason on his September UK Tour.
