New Treat #33: Ben Howard

West country singer-songwriter Ben Howard is one of Communion’s newest signings and first caught my ears when he played a joint headline show with Matthew and the Atlas in a church in Shepherds Bush. His music rings echos of Bon Iver, Fink and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, but his unique guitar style ultimately brings a breath of fresh air. His EP, ‘Old Pine’ is to be released on May 23rd via Communion and you can grab a free download of the song ‘Three Tree Town’ below via soundcloud. He has also just been signed to Island Records, not bad at all for a young chap. Catch him on one of his UK tour dates this April.

This guy is fantastic. I just heard “Old Pine” for the first time last week and I’ve been listening to it non-stop. I agree, his guitar sound is fresh and distinctive. His voice is also lovely. I second that recommendation!
