Rachel Sermanni isn’t exactly new to me. I first heard her over a year ago when she was on the Communion record. Her song ‘My Friend Fire’ didn’t stand out for me at the time, although now its one of my favourites from the compilation. I have mentioned Rachel several times on my blog before, but I think she is wonderful and so felt like giving her a little more love by featuring her as a new treat.
Rachel Sermanni is from Carrbridge, a small and very pretty place in Scotland. Her music is soft and sweet and cushioned by the most beautiful voice. She sings of quirky things like foxes and pirates and that slightly quirky side comes across when she plays live too. You can hear essences of Eva Cassidy, Alessi’s Ark and scottish influences. Her talents were brought to London after a jamming session on the beach with Mumford & Sons during the Ullapool festival. Ben Lovett recorded a few songs with her and one of them was ‘My Friend Fire’, which appeared on the Communion record. Since then she has been a busy bee, nursed into the limelight by playing Communion nights, she has since supported Mumford & Sons on there recent highlands tour and she has also just been to SXSW. Things are looking pretty nice for Rachel Sermanni. She hasn’t released anything yet, but you can grab a free download of Eggshells below and have a listen on her myspace here.
